We hope this list of suggestions for individuals and organizations will inspire change
 

Individual Actions

  • Invite members of other diverse backgrounds to do activities with you
  • Donate to diversity advocacy organizations
  • Learn educate yourself on the history and state of race in America. 
  • Share and re-post first-hand experiences of people of color
  • Send news articles to friends and family
  • Show up at protests and demonstrations – be visible
  • Post  your anti-racist views on social media
  • Call  people in positions of authority to put pressure on the political and economic drivers of change
  • Reconnect with people of color from your own past and listen
  • Ask your organization how it is fighting racism and improving diversity and inclusion
  • Educate by sharing data and history with people who are not aware
  • Write your unique perspective – use your voice to strengthen the collective voice
  • Speak with strangers – from all walks of life.  Ask them how they are doing – increase empathy and kindness amongst us.
  • Ask friends/family/colleagues if they are engaged in ending racism and would they like to talk with you about those ideas
  • Ask your Town Officials how your town is fighting racism and improving diversity and inclusion
  • Wear a sign or a bumper sticker on your person or bicycle or car – increase the critical mass of visibility
  • Engage people in conversations about what the difference is between not being racist and being anti-racist

Sport Teams & Organizations Actions

  • Change how and where we advertise our team and events
  • Revise mission statement to include diversity and inclusion themes
  • Learn from other successful diverse teams
  • Host themed events (e.g., Cinco de Mayo,  Juneteenth)
  • Measure progress on diversifying teams membership
  • Incorporate diversity supporting themes into teams merchandise
  • Diversify team leadership
  • Educate team members about biases and micro-aggressions
  • Partner with minority owned outdoor gear shops
  • Increase team event accessibility; make it easier for people to get to our events​
