Please see our PLEDGE Suggestions and FAQs for positive things you can do to support this movement. Q. Why are you using Strava? A. While there may be other ways to collect data, Strava allows us to quickly aggregate ride data from potentially thousands of athletes using dozens of tracking technologies, and do so with only a few weeks of preparation. This maximizes the number of people who can contribute to the event.. Q. What kind of organization is Wheels of Change? A. We are a totally volunteer group of friends. There is no formal organization or corporate entity. Q. Is there dirt on any section of a route? A. There are some dirt/gravel/stone dust paths in the routes. We believe that all can be ridden with standard road bikes, but we have not pre-ridden these routes, and conditions may have changed from the data we used to set the routes. If you feel uncomfortable on such a section, please seek a nearby street route. Q. Can I ride a motorcycle or drive a car and get credit on Strava. A. So sorry, no! Generally speaking, the speeds of a car or motorcycle would cause those rides to be scrubbed out. It's not what Strava is set up to do. Q. What if I want to do the route backwards? Is there a way to get the directions on Ride With GPS reversed? A. Yes. Select the WOC Route you want to ride. In Ride With GPS click "More" and select "Open in Route Planner". Then click "Edit" and select "Reverse". Q. What are some good safety rules to follow? A. Here are a few top level safety pointers: - Always make safety top of mind - Stay alert and focused at ALL TIMES when on the roads and sidewalks - it's usually the moment of distraction and inattention when someone gets hurt - Obey all traffic laws - Wear safety gear including helmets and lights to make yourself as visible as possible - Be aware of the road condition in general and the pavement right in front of you in particular - Be courteous and help to all |
